On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and of the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action for the Protection of Human Rights in the World, the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development have promoted an International Conference on the theme "Human Rights in the Contemporary World: Achievements, Omissions, Negations", which was held at the Pontifical Gregorian University on 10 and 11 December.
The foundations of human rights have been discussed, from the theological point of view and of international law; of the diplomatic action of the Holy See, of the United Nations and of international agencies in the field of human rights; application of the same in the most varied contexts, with particular attention to areas of war, such as Syria, and those affected by terrorism, and the issues of religious freedom and the universal right to health, respecting different cultures and particular contexts .
His Eminence Card Peter K.A. Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and Rev. Fr. Jacquineau Azetsop, S.J. Dean of the faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical Gregorian University, opened the sessions.
