February 8 is the Day of Prayer against human trafficking. This year's theme is "Trade and Migration" to focus on the drama experienced by itinerant peoples: migrants, refugees and displaced persons.
“We cannot remain silent before the suffering of millions of people whose dignity has been wounded " affirms Pope Francis in a Tweet in which he recalls the theme for the Day, inviting everyone also to accept “with a merciful spirit” all “the victims of trafficking and those fleeing war and hunger”.
In view of the anniversary, Cardinal Peter Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, participated in the prayer vigil organized by the Diocese of Rome in the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, on the evening of 3 February.
