Awaiting the next Synod of Bishops on Amazonia, which will be held from 6 to 27 October 2019, the Pontifical Gregorian University, in collaboration with the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, REPAM (Pan-Amazon Ecclesial Network), and the Global Catholic Climate Movement, promoted a convention entitled “Amazonia: challenges and prospects for the Common Home”.
The event, inspired by Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato si’, took place on Thursday 16 May at the auditorium of the university. Pastoral experiences were told and the participants debated on indigenous spirituality and the analysis of threats to the indigenous people, the forest and the water basin of the Amazon region.
The event was opened with a video message by Card. Peter Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. The report by Cardinal Cláudio Hummes OFM, President of REPAM, will follow.
In the afternoon session, Don Augusto Zampini Davies, official of the Dicastery, spoke about the subject “Amazonia and universal integral development”.
