In view of the European elections, the Catholic Church in Germany is acting, particularly in response to the rise of nationalism. The concern is that this ideology could hinder the reception and integration of refugees and migrants.
The German bishops signed a declaration to express the Church's position on respect for human dignity, "the core of the Christian vision of humanity". The declaration aims to create spaces of encounter and dialogue to promote Christian values in a society experiencing changes and crises, and to accompany each person in discerning conscious and ethical choices.
