The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development delivers the Pontiff’s support to afflicted population

Guatemala. Pope Francis sends donation after volcanic eruption

In June of 2018 the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, sent a contribution of $100,000in the Holy Father’s name to help the populations, who suffered from the eruption of the “Volcán de Fuego” in Guatemala.

This sum was intended to represent an immediate sign of the spiritual closeness and paternal encouragement from the Pope to the affected populations.

In collaboration with the Guatemalan Apostolic Nunciature, the aid sent was distributed among the dioceses most affected by the catastrophe and used for projects to assist the people and territories affected by the eruption.

The contribution, together with prayer, in support of the beloved Guatemalan people, is part of the aid that has been activated throughout the Catholic Church and that involves numerous charitable organizations in addition to various Episcopal Conferences.

According to estimates, still not final, the eruption has affected more than 1.7 million people, forcing about 13 thousand people to evacuate their homes and causing more than one hundred victims and about sixty injured, as well as extensive material damage.
