Presentation of the book “The Roman Curia”, by Mons. Anthony Ekpo in Rome

In The Roman Curia: History, Theology and Organization Monsignor Anthony Ekpo explains, in accessible language and style, the complex and often misconstrued reality called the Roman Curia. The text will enlighten anyone interested in unpacking and understanding the Curia’s institutions and how they operate, particularly in the light of recent reforms initiated by Pope Francis.

The presentation of the book takes place at Notre Dame University in Rome on 7 November at 5.30 pm. It features Card. Michael Czerny, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, in dialogue about the book with its author, who also holds the position of Undersecretary of the same Dicastery. Prof. Kathleen Sprows Cummings, Professor of American Studies and History of the University of Notre Dame, moderates the event.

Published by the Georgetown University Press, the book explains the structures and organization of the Curia, starting with an account of its institution and how popes of different eras have used its various fora.

This overview of the Roman Curia and allied ecclesiastical institutions is the first comprehensive treatment in English of the reforms enacted by Pope Francis’s Praedicate Evangelium. Teachers, students, and researchers alike will find it an invaluable resource on the nature, history, theology, and juridical structures of the Roman Curia.

Speaking about his work, Mons. Ekpo said: “I learned a lot myself when I was researching for this book. But I also wanted it to be written in simple and accessible language so that everyone can understand this complex reality called the Roman Curia and how it is meant to assist the Pope in his universal ministry as the Pastor of the Holy Catholic Church.”
