"Embracing a shared vision": a meeting in Zambia with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

Held in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa, May 29-31, the semi-annual meeting organized by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation with partners involved in the implementation of Catholic Sisters, a project that supports congregations of religious women in different parts of the world concretely committed to promoting peace, equity, and justice.

The event, entitled Embracing a Shared Vision: Impact, Learning, and Collaboration in Service to the Common Good, brought together the current 118 Partners from 15 countries to create unity and community among them. Among the participants was also Sr Alessandra Smerilli FMA, Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (DPIHD), who spoke during the session "Synodality: dialogue with Dicastery and Local Church leaders".

Other representatives of the Holy See also spoke at the same session, namely Dr. Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, Sr. Nathalie Becquart, XMCJ, Under-Secretary of the Synod of Bishops and Sr. Carmen Ros Nortes, N.S.C., Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

The meeting gave partners the opportunity to share experiences and knowledge, learn from each other, and build strong networks for a common mission. Through Catholic Sisters, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Partners offer, in various ways, concrete support to consecrated women who actively work to protect the dignity of the most fragile and nurture hope.

As Sr. Jane Wakahiu, LSOSF, Associate Vice President and Director of the Catholic Sisters’ project, recalls in an interview with the DPIHD, the Catholic Sisters supports many consecrated sisters to "alleviate human suffering" and helps catholic sisters "build sisterhood locally, nationally and globally" by also implementing "education, training and elder care."

The Zambia event was an opportunity for DPIHD to come into direct contact with the local Churches, to get to know them better and to make itself known, to continue together on the path towards the promotion of integral human development, a mission already shared for a long time with the Conrad N. Hilton.
