Church in Lebanon promotes formation for peace

The Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops of Lebanon (APECL) promotes the formation of young people for Peace through the Leadership Academy for Peace (LAP).

This initiative aims to promote the formation of young Catholics (between 21 and 35 years of age) in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) by equipping them with necessary tools to become effective leaders. The program is based on the principles and values of the Catholic Social Teachings.

This project is developed around three axes. The first concerns schoolteachers, who are instructed to adopt a new language based on dialogue so that they can, in turn, transmit it to their students. The second aspect concerns the students, so that they can rediscover the history of their country and the history of the civil war. The third part is addressed to university students and newly graduated students for them to become active citizens in society.

The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has supported the realization of this training course, which is accompanied by the Maronite Archbishop of Antelias, Msgr. Antoine Bou Najm, and the Syrian Catholic Bishop of the Patriarchate of Antioch, Msgr. Jules Boutros.
