The First International Meeting of Priests on Mission to Parliaments, which took place on 14 and 15 November 2013, was an opportunity to deepen the Magisterium of the Church regarding the importance of the commitment of Christians in politics and related issues, as well as ethical issues and the progress of legislative developments achieved in many countries on bioethics, family and migrant law, religious freedom, etc..
These Proceedings collect all the interventions (Libreria Editrice Vaticana 2014, multilingual edition in Italian, English, French and Spanish) and, in the Appendix, the important document of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Doctrinal note on some issues concerning the commitment and behavior of Catholics in political life (2002) in Italian, English, French, Spanish, German.
"Christian politicians must be helped to make a rational discernment of the common good, but at the same time it is also necessary to nourish their hope and courage. The preferential choice for the poor concerns the nascent life and social precariousness, migration and the end-of-life, the unemployed and the environment. A characteristic of Christians engaged in politics is, or should be, the ability to promote a global and coherent principle of humanity" (from the Introduction).
