The Catholic Church in North Macedonia is committed to relieving the needs and wants of people and walks alongside them in promoting their integral human development, thus instilling hope in a better future.
A concrete example of charity is the ‘Maria Teresa Centre - Gevgelija’, which has existed since 2018 to aid children and young people with disabilities through psycho-motor and speech rehabilitation with the help of specialized Macedonian staff.
The building in which it is located is owned by the Catholic Church in Macedonia and has so far had more than 150 users. Through this initiative, the Church in Macedonia meets families with children with special needs, offering them professional care, closeness and accompaniment.
The focus of the Centre is early intervention, i.e. working with children from an early age, through treatment with special educators, physiotherapists, rehabilitators and speech therapists with a personalized plan and approach to work individually with each one.
The Mother Teresa Centre works the Montessori method at the service of children and young people from birth to eighteen years of age. Montessori pedagogy is based on independence, freedom to choose one's own educational path and respect for the child's natural physical, psychological and social development, aiming to develop a sense of responsibility and awareness towards the network of relationships.
In this way, they seek to accompany patients with various difficulties: from delays in psychophysical development, to autism, cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes, hearing disorders, undiagnosed conditions, absenteeism and language delay, and more.
Finally, the Mother Teresa Centre offers socio-educational workshops aimed at parents to accompany and support them on their children's growth path.
