Publication launched in Rome 5 years after the Synod on the Amazon

On the fifth anniversary of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation “Dear Amazonia”, the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops presented a publication on the Special Assembly of the Synod for the Pan-Amazon Region that took place from October 6 to 27, 2019.

The presentation of the volume “Amazonia: New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology” took place on June 4 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome and it is possible to follow the replay at: https://www.fao.org/webcast/home/en/item/6577/icode/

Among the authors of the articles to be published is the prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Card. Michael Czerny SJ, who was the special secretary of the Synod for Amazonia.

The Vatican Publishing House (VPH) has published this 692-page volume. The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) and the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM) participated in the elaboration of the text.

Presentation

At the beginning of the presentation, FAO Director General Dr. Qu Dongyu, and the Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod, Card. Mario Grech.  

The Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Card. Michael Czerny, S.J.; the President of CEAMA, Card. Pedro Ricardo Barreto Jimeno, S.J.; the president of REPAM, Jesica Patiachi and the vice-president of CEAMA, Laura Vicuña.

Finally, a concluding message was delivered by the Assistant Director-General of the Partnerships and Collaboration with the United Nations Division of FAO, Fatouma Seid; the Assistant Vice-President of the Strategy and Knowledge Department, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Dr Jyotsna Puri and the Permanent Observer of the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to FAO, Msgr. Fernando Chica Arellano.
